CHICAGO
Presented by: Ben McDonald | Directed by: Michael Hurst
A nightclub singer, a double-murderess, a smooth-talking lawyer and a cell block of sin….. so the story unfolds in the award-winning global and West End musical Chicago, coming to Dunedin this August.
The global smash-hit musical CHICAGO is coming to Dunedin this August, in a spectacular new production that brings all the glitz, glamour, and scandal of 1920s Chicago to life like never before.
The brand-new production, directed by Kiwi creative institution Michael Hurst, will play at the Regent Theatre for just two days on 29 & 30 August, following seasons in Auckland and Christchurch. This is an exceptional chance for Dunedinites to see on of the world’s greatest musicals.
The fully-professional cast will feature international and New Zealand singers, dancers and actors, telling a universal tale of fame, fortune, and all that jazz, with one show stopping song after another including Razzle Dazzle, Cell Block Tango and All That Jazz; and the most astonishing dancing you’ve ever seen.
Enter a world of jazz, crime, and razzle dazzle at Chicago. Set in the Prohibition-era 1920s and based on real events, this satirical show follows wannabe jazz age stars who get their fame not just for their singing or dancing talent, but for committing murders that make sensationalised headlines all across the city of Chicago.
Producer Ben McDonald says “Chicago the Musical is one of the world’s most popular musicals. Unbelievably sexy, sassy and sensational, this musical thrills and chills, which is why it continues to tour the world after so many years and has been applauded by millions of people. It would be a crime for you to miss it.”
Winner of six Tonys, two Oliviers, one Grammy, two BAFTAs and six Academy Awards, plus thousands of standing ovations, Chicago the Musical is the longest-running musical revival in Broadway history and truly is “The sharpest, slickest show on the block” (The Times, UK).
“The most exciting musical of its generation” – THE TIMES, UK
“Still the hottest show in town” – THE INDEPENDENT, UK

Theatre Etiquette
- Please turn off all your electronic devices before you come into the auditorium.
- If you have taken snacks from our bar back to your seat, try not to rustle when the house lights go down.
- If you are late to a show, get comfortable in our bar area until we can turn the house lights back on so you can find your seat.
- Camera flashes occasionally make performers stumble – over their lines or their feet – so we prefer that you don’t use flash (or any other) photography.
- Please keep your feet on the floor – someone counting the beat on the back of your seat can be distracting.
- Dancing in the aisles sounds like fun but it might make our Circle collapse. If you really need to dance (and it’s the right sort of show), please book seats in the Stalls or make your way out to the foyer.
- We encourage you to introduce your children to the arts, but please also teach them to watch and listen quietly and peacefully.

Box Office is also open one hour prior to shows
