The World Cinema Showcase turns twelve with as potent a little programme of mavericks and masterpieces as we’ve ever mustered.
The Showcase, unless we’re much mistaken, is New Zealand’s second-most popular Film Festival, an annual collaboration that has taken root amongst ourselves (organisers of the mammoth annual mid-winter New Zealand International Film Festival) and enterprising cinema operators in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
Our agenda is a broad one: we’re not confined by a specific genre, or national cinema or view of the world. Diversity and quality are our guiding lights.
As longstanding abettors of independence in cinema exhibition we’re in no doubt at all that a carefully curated programme like this has a significant role to play in cutting through a crowded but often surprisingly thin marketplace. We’re sure you’ll find something in this year’s selection to reward your attention. Enjoy.
