DONATION OF ITEMS
Items may be left in the Regent Theatre foyer during opening hours (Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm; and Saturday mornings 10.30am to 1.00pm). Alternatively, collections may be requested by calling the box office 477 8597 or by emailing BOOK COLLECTION.
We are grateful for the support of our fantastic local BP stations, but please do not drop off donated items to them except during May.
We gratefully acknowledge the generous support of Mark Laughton Motors for providing us with the booksale van to do all our running around and picking up.
The two annual sales held to support the Regent Theatre – the 24 Hour Book Sale and the Anything But Books Sale – are a vital component of the theatre’s income. A team of up to 50 volunteers works eight months of the year accepting, sorting and pricing donated items. Our new off site location for sorting gives us excellent space, but it does mean that there’s a great deal of lifting & handling involved between receiving a donated item and placing it in the sale. For this reason it’s important that our supporters understand what we are, and are not, able to sell.
We gratefully welcome donations of saleable items in good condition in the following categories:
- Hardback and paperback books
- Recent magazines and comics (see below)
- Sheet music
- Collectable ephemera (especially NZ sports programmes, local history, and vintage comics & magazines)
- CDs
- Vinyl records
- Talking book tapes and CDs
- DVDs and good quality videos (see below)
- Jigsaws, toys and games if complete
- Pictures, mirrors and frames
- Elegant junk – bric a brac, collectables
We regret that the items below are not saleable. Disposing of items that we cannot sell represents a significant cost in time and money to the theatre. Sadly, it is our experience that other charities do not wish to receive items that we do not think we can sell. Remember that paper items can now be recycled via your DCC wheelie bin!
We no longer sell music tapes
We cannot sell ex-rental and home recorded VCR tapes
Books
We cannot sell books that have been stored in damp/dirty conditions, or that are significantly repaired, broken spined, defaced or water damaged, except if they are very old/collectable/related to New Zealand.
We cannot sell out-dated (ie more than about 5 years old) reference material such as Encyclopaedia Britannica or similar, children’s reference sets, atlases, text books or Guinness Books of Records. Only school texts relating to NCEA are saleable.
We do not sell Readers’ Digest editions that are more than 3 years old.
Magazines
We do not sell free magazines (such as AA Directions, airline magazines)
We cannot sell issues more than one year old of publications where being current is important, such as women’s, IT, car, consumer.
For more general publications (National Geographic, cookery, gardening, music, sports) we do not sell issues that are more than about 5 years old
But certain categories are always saleable (vintage, comics, collectors’ topics like railways) so please check with us if you are unsure.
Thank you for your understanding, and for supporting the wonderful Regent Theatre.
